Ritu Sood Disick, DDS
Dr. Ritu Sood Disick began her doctorate studies at the University of California, where she graduated with a B.S. in Biology in 1997. She was thereafter accepted at Columbia University’s School of Dental and Oral Surgery in New York City, where she obtained her licensure as a D.D.S. in 2002. Her success in that program lead to an immediate offer from Palo Alto’s VA Hospital to participate in its intensive, advanced training residency program (academically known as a “G.P.R.”). Eager to begin her career, but cognizant of the incredible opportunity the offer represented, Dr. Sood postponed her calling as a practitioner in order to participate.
Following her completion of that G.P.R. program in 2003, Dr. Sood officially began her full-time practice of administering comprehensive dental care to a diverse spectrum of patients in San Francisco’s financial district. She would remain with the same practice for the next fifteen years as the primary associate within a fast-paced, upscale, state-of-the-art setting. While she experienced a tremendous amount of professional and personal growth over this time, the opportunity to start her own practice close to home in Walnut Creek was simply too good to pass up. In the summer of 2018, Dr. Sood purchased Treat Boulevard Dentistry's practice from its former owner, and has applied her experience, skill and personal touch to grow TDS into the success it has become today.
Despite the demands of clinical profession, Dr. Sood has always maintained a very close relationship with the academic world, and she attributes much of her professional achievements to keeping up with the latest advancements in her chosen profession. “Experience isn’t everything," she has said. "Adaptation, growth and continued learning are imperative if a Doctor wishes to provide the best care to to the patients under their care." To this end, Dr. Sood holds a faculty position at SPEAR, one of the world’s most prestigious continuing education communities, and she is a fixture at the organization's regularly-held collaborative, hands-on courses, meetings, and conferences. It should therefore come as no surprise that Dr. Sood consistently exceeds California's required number of continuing education hours every year by a considerable margin.
Dr. Sood's commitment to excellence comes from her profound appreciation for the extent to which a healthy dentition and beautiful smile improves a person’s confidence, comfort, and quality of life. That said, she also knows that each patient’s unique concerns and personal goals have a tremendous impact on how these quantifiers are defined. Dr. Sood ensures that her approach to providing dental care is shared by everyone who works at Treat Boulevard Dentistry, where we highlight the individual, and make certain that every patient's experience is as unique as he or she is.

Dr. Patel knows that, in order to provide his patients with experienced care, he must continually keep himself up-to-date with the newest dental procedures out there.

Board Certified Periodontist / Perio Specialist
Dr. Moavenian has been providing advanced periodontal care and dental implant therapy to patients and doctors since 1994. She completed her dental education at Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska (1990) following a doctorate degree in dental medicine in 1995. Her interest in Periodontics and dental implantology took her to the Ohio State University where she obtained her certificate in periodontology and a master of science degree.
To become distinguished in the field of periodontology and amongst her colleagues, she then completed the board certification process in 1997. She is currently a member of American board of Periodontology (ABP), American Academy of Periodontology (AAP), American Dental Association (ADA) and California Dental Association CDA). Dr. Moavenian is very thorough during her your consultation appointments. What is a Periodontal Specialist?
A periodontist is a dentist who specializes in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of periodontal disease, and in the placement of dental implants. Periodontists are also experts in the treatment of oral inflammation. Periodontists receive extensive training in these areas, including three additional years of education beyond dental school. They are familiar with the latest techniques for diagnosing and treating periodontal disease, and are also trained in performing cosmetic periodontal procedures.
Periodontists often treat more problematic periodontal cases, such as those with severe gum disease or a complex medical history. Periodontists offer a wide range of treatments, such as scaling and root planing (in which the infected surface of the root is cleaned) or root surface debridement (in which damaged tissue is removed). They can also treat patients with severe gum problems using a range of surgical procedures. In addition, periodontists are specially trained in the placement, maintenance, and repair of dental implants.
During the first visit, the periodontist usually reviews the patient’s complete medical and dental histories. It is extremely important for the periodontist to know if any medications are being taken or if the patient is being treated for any condition that can affect periodontal care, such as heart disease, diabetes, or pregnancy.
The periodontist examines the gums, checks to see if there is any gum line recession, assesses how the teeth fit together when biting, and checks the teeth to see if any are loose. The periodontist will also take a small measuring instrument called a probe and place it between the teeth and gums to determine the depth of those spaces, known as periodontal pockets; this helps the periodontist assess the health of the gums. X-rays may also be taken to observe the health of the bone below the gum line.
Who Should See a Periodontist?
Some patients’ periodontal needs can be managed by the general dentist. However, as more and more patients are exhibiting signs of periodontal disease, coupled with research that suggests a relationship between periodontal disease and other chronic diseases of aging, periodontal treatment may necessitate a greater understanding and increased level of expertise by a trained specialist. Patients who present with moderate or severe levels of periodontal disease, or patients with more complex cases, will be best managed by a partnership between the dentist and periodontist.

Registered Dental Hygienist
Jessica began her dental career at the ripe old age of 16, when she got an after-school job working in the front office of her dentist at that time. “It didn’t take me long to realize that I wanted to pursue a career in dentistry,” she said. “After high school, I stayed with my plan to become an RDH and never looked back.” Jeessica’s professional ambition led her to Carrington College (Sacramento), where she obtained her Associates’ Degree in Dental Hygiene in 2009, and officially started her career as a dental hygienist.
Jessica brings over fifteen years of experience in the field with her to the TBD family. She loves developing relationships with each patient and getting to know them as individuals, learning about their lives and interests, while simultaneously providing thorough dental care with the gentle touch for which she is known. While she’s the consummate professional, Jessica is just as friendly and open. She is quick to smile and laugh with patients, helping them feel relaxed and comfortable during their appointments at TBD.
In her role with our practice, Jessica diagnoses periodontal disease and related issues, works with others at TBD to help patients attain and maintain optimum oral health, and provides supplemental education to her patients regarding how a healthy body requires a healthy mouth. Jessica is a member of the American and California Dental Hygiene Associations. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, attending sporting events, and spending time with her husband and children.

Registered Dental Assistant, Team Lead
Shivani has been a Registered Dental Assistant for more than a quarter century. Like our other Team Leads, she joined the practice more than a decade ago (2000) and has remained with the TBD family ever since. "I continue to be loyal to Dr. Sood because working with her is such a pleasure," she explained. "We all get along very well in this office, and Dr. Sood is not only an excellent dentist, but she makes everyone she comes in contact with feel like family."
As a seasoned RDA, Shivani is responsible for reviewing patient records and assisting Dr. Sood and her associates during treatment. She also takes digital scanning records for patients with TBD's state-of-the-art 3-D scanning devices. Just like her colleagues, Shivani's gets significant personal fulfillment in what she does. "Because I love the dental field so much, I also work as a dental assistant instructor at Carrington College, where I help students become dental assistants," she said.
When she is away from the office, Shivani likes to spend time with her mother and travel.

Patient Relations Specialist
The newest member of the TBD family, Sheila joined the practice in 2018 as our very first Patient Relations Specialist. In that role, Sheila devotes her time to ensuring that the lines of communication between our practice and patients remain open, clear, consise and consistent. Patients will regonize Sheila as the voice of Treat Boulevard Dentistry who calls to remind them of upcoming (or missed) appointments, as she helps them maintain their overall dental health.
“In what I do, excellent communication and maintaining positive patient relationships are most important,” she says. “Every time I see or speak to a patient, I think to myself, ‘How can I make him or her feel welcome in our practice.”
While Sheila works hard at what she does, she likes to have fun at work too. “As the voice of this office, I feel an obligation to share that voice with my co-workers,” she said. “I make a point to regale everyone around me with improptu karaoke performances at least once a day!” When asked for a critique of her singing ability, the rest of the TBD staff responded, “No comment.”
When she’s not working or singing, Sheila loves spending time with her three children, two dogs and the rest of her family and friends.
Front Office, Team Lead
Karla has lived in the East Bay her entire life, and she began working in the dental field in 1995. She joined our practice as its front office treatment coordinator, and was promoted by Dr. Sood to Front Office Team Lead in 2018. Karla embodies the passion for what we do that is shared throughout the TBD team. She summed it up perfectly when she said, "I love the staff, patients and the environment here!"
Most patients recognize Karla as soon as they walk through our doors. She is the one responsible for monitoring their online appointment requests, and she also helps coordinate the payment of their insurance benefits as well. Patients will often hear her voice when they call our office, and she's often the person behind those friendly emails or texts that help our patients maintain their recommended frequency of preventive appointments.
When asked about her personal interests, Karla responded, "Taking care of my family is my main priority. I also like to participate in my kids' football practices and games."
